Rissi Palmer is slated to return to the Grand Ole Opry stage for the first time in 13 years

No Comments Country Music News

Chris CharlesOver a decade since she last stepped on the legendary stage, Rissi Palmer is returning to the Grand Ole Opry on March 19.

Rissi made her Opry debut back in 2007. That same year, she dropped her self-titled studio debut, which included “Country Girl,” her first song to enter the country charts. She went on to make several Opry appearances over the next year.

During the pandemic, the singer has seen something of a career resurgence, thanks in part to her radio show, Color Me Country with Rissi Palmer. Since debuting the show in August 2020, Rissi’s used the platform to spotlight country artists of color who have been marginalized in the genre’s mainstream.

Rissi’s show takes its name from a 1970 album by Linda Martell, the first Black woman to play the Grand Ole Opry stage.

“It’s always special to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. I am so excited to return with a renewed sense of what it all means to me as an artist,” Rissi says.

Rissi and her radio show are also going to be in the spotlight as part of the Country Music Hall of Fame’s new American Currents: State of the Music exhibit.

Matthew McConaughey calls possible run for Texas governor "a true consideration"

No Comments Entertainment News

ABC (TEXAS) — Could we be calling him Governor Matthew McConaughey in the future?  The Dallas Buyers Club star let it slip on Wednesday that he is considering throwing his hat into Texas’ gubernatorial race next year.

During his appearance on The Balanced Voice podcast, the 51-year-old McConaughey reflected on how he sees himself as a leader.

Said the Oscar winner, “I’m looking into now again, what is my leadership role? Because I do think I have some things to teach and share, and what is my role? What’s my category in my next chapter of life that I’m going into now?”

McConaughey allowed that, while he “still feel[s] very much like a peer,” that he has come to understand that he has “wisdom to share.”

The Greenlights author says his time teaching at Texas’ Moody College of Communication as part of the Department of Radio-Television-Film opened his eyes.

McConaughey says he’s shared his life experiences and learnings “that I think is obvious” with his students, of which he quickly learns they “had no idea.”

Because of the impact he’s leaving, he added that he is “stepping into more leadership… teaching positions.”

When pressed by the host, Crime Stoppers CEO Rania Mankarious, about whether or not his upcoming leadership roles involve a run for governor of Texas, of which current Gov. Greg Abbot is up for reelection in 2022, McConaughey confirmed, “It’s a true consideration.”

The actor also shared his “three epics” that make up the backbone of his life, which he reveals are his three children — Levi, 12, Vida, 11, and eight-year-old Livingston — of whom he shares with wife Camila Alves.

He says his children are “the greatest light or shadow that Camila and I can leave [behind.]”

Susan Sarandon says she will only date "someone who's been vaccinated for COVID"

No Comments Entertainment News

Mark Makela/Getty Images)(LOS ANGELES) — Susan Sarandon is on the hunt for a new squeeze and dropped a major bomb on Wednesday.  She doesn’t care if she dates a man or a woman — all she wants is someone who’s been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Appearing on the Divorced Not Dead podcast, the 74-year-old affirmed that she is only attracted to people who have built up an immunity to the contagious virus.

“[I will only date] someone who’s been vaccinated for COVID,” said Sarandon. “I don’t care if it’s a man or a woman,” adding she doesn’t care about “age” or “color,” either.

“Those things are just details,” the Academy Award-winner expressed. “But what I’m interested in is someone who wants to be adventuresome.”

Another stipulation Sarandon gave is that she doesn’t want to date someone who wants to start a family — as she is the mom of two sons and one daughter.

Most of all, the Dead Man Walking star wants to enjoy life with someone who “is passionate about what they do.”

“They could be a school teacher, or they could be a writer or they could be successful or not successful,” she attested, but attested she will only be attracted so someone who “owns themselves and isn’t gonna be intimidated by people coming up to [me] on the street and saying, ‘Oh my God, I love you.'”

“I think I’m pretty open to the idea of being with someone,” she closed with a laugh. “It certainly would take someone extraordinary to share my medicine cabinet at this point. I think that that those days are over.”

Sarandon was last linked to director Jonathan Bricklin, of whom she broke up with in 2015.

She shares daughter Eva, 35, with ex Franco Amurri and sons Jack Henry, 31, and Miles, 28, with ex Tim Robbins.

Sharon Osbourne grilled on 'The Talk' for supporting Piers Morgan following his Meghan Markle comments

No Comments Entertainment News

Monty Brinton/CBS @2021 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.(LOS ANGELES) — On Wednesday’s installment of her chat show The Talk, a defiant Sharon Osbourne again defended her friend Piers Morgan, who slammed Meghan Markle after the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Osbourne was also forced to stand up for herself, even to her own co-hosts.

Osbourne had tweeted to Morgan after he famously stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, “…I stand by you. People forget that you’re paid for your opinion and that you’re just speaking your truth.”  She was subsequently flamed online for the opinion, as well as on The Talk set in a tense exchange.

“Did I like everything he said? Did I agree with what he said? No, because it’s his opinion,” Osbourne stated.  “It’s not my opinion. But why is it that because I supported a long-time friend and work colleague of mine for years that everybody goes, if you support him, then you must be racist because he’s racist?”

Osbourne, tears in her eyes, responded, “I feel like I’m about to be put in an electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is a racist, so that makes me a racist.”

The tense exchange continued after the show cut to a commercial. An exasperated Osbourne said to co-host Sheryl Underwood, “Educate me! Tell me what he said that was racist!”

Underwood replied that Morgan’s negative comments about Markle had “the implication” of being racist.

Osbourne said, “Why can’t it be he just doesn’t like her? Why does it have to be racist?”

However, Sharon allowed that, as a Briton, she was “ashamed” at the “deplorable racism” behind the Royal Family’s denying Meghan and Prince Harry’s son Archie a royal title.
