Severe weather outbreak expected in South with tornadoes and large hail

No Comments National News

ABC NewsBy MAX GOLEMBO, ABC News

(NEW YORK) — Tornado and severe weather season has arrived and a new storm system is moving across the country from the West Coast to the East Coast with a major severe weather outbreak expected across the South.

Over the next three days more than 50 million people will see a threat for damaging winds, hail and tornadoes.

There were already a couple of tornadoes around Kansas City, Missouri producing damage to homes on Monday and, further north, that same storm brought more than a foot of snow from the Dakotas to Minnesota with multiple accidents and spinouts around the Twin Cities.

Now this storm system is moving into the Appalachians and a new storm is coming out of the West.

As these two storms march through the country, 18 states are on alert for strong winds and heavy snow from California to New York.

Over the next 24 hours, severe weather is expected from the Plains — including Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas — which is where there is the biggest threat for damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes.

Ahead of this storm on Tuesday, a stationary front will produce strong storms from Louisiana to Alabama and these storms could also produce isolated tornado and damaging winds.

As this storm moves east, the biggest threat for tornadoes and damaging winds is expected on Wednesday from Arkansas to Alabama, including major cities like Memphis, Tennessee and Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama.

The worst of the severe weather will begin early in the afternoon on Wednesday or evening and overnight into Thursday morning.

By Thursday, the severe weather threat moves into the Southeast from Virginia to Florida with tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail all possible across the region.

Lady A's Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood feel "Like a Lady" — and that's just fine

No Comments Country Music News

Big MachineThese days, Lady A‘s Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood are feeling “Like a Lady” — and they happen to be just fine with that.

You see, the guys are supporting Hillary Scott‘s lead vocals this time around, on the sassy new single she co-wrote.

“I think what drew me to the song initially was when I first saw the title ‘Like a Lady,’ I was like, ‘Okay, it’s gonna be ladylike,'” Charles explains. “And I think it’s basically kind of flipping that on its head.”

Perhaps most importantly, Charles noticed an instant reaction from the lady in his life: his wife, Cassie.

“I’ve got a really strong woman at home,” he continues, “and my wife immediately just responded to this song as well. It just felt very female-empowering.”

“And this is the time for Dave and I to kind of be the support system in Hillary’s fierceness, as they say,” Charles adds, as Hillary and Dave laugh.

“Like a Lady” is the first taste of the trio’s forthcoming eighth studio album, and the follow-up to their multi-week number one, “Champagne Night.”

Paul Raci on Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination: "My head is spinning"

No Comments Entertainment News

Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images for AT&T(LOS ANGELES) — Paul Raci wasn’t sure why his sister was calling him on Monday morning or why she sounded like a “wounded animal” on the phone — but he thinks it has something to do with him being an official Oscar nominee.  The Sound of Metal actor received his first Oscar nomination and is now vying for the prestigious Best Supporting Actor honor.

After the list of Oscar nominees was read off, Raci said his phone began “blowing up” — but the first one to get through to him was his sister, who was “crying hysterically.”

“My hysterical sister in Chicago… sounded like a wounded animal,” he tells ABC Audio, noting his only thought at the time was “What the hell’s wrong with her?”

As for how he feels about being in the same league as Hollywood greats Sacha Baron Cohen, Leslie Odom Jr., LaKeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya for Best Supporting Actor — he admits he’s still having a hard time wrapping his head around it.

“My head is spinning. I’m very happy,” Raci confessed. “I’m blessed, I couldn’t be more grateful right now.”

The 72-year-old actor said he did not anticipate the honor because of his humble acting background.

“I’m basically a… Chicago stage actor.  I’ve done 99-seat theater my whole life,” said Raci. “I’ve never, never been given the opportunity. It’s pretty competitive out here in Los Angeles.”

Needless to say, he finds it “unbelievable” that he was nominated in the first place.

As for how he celebrated the unexpected honor, Raci said he “got online with Darius [Marder], the director, and everybody on Zoom, we had a little Zoom party.”

He also has been fielding a ton of calls from his family members and “all my friends that love me” since his nomination was announced.

(NEW YORK) — The top seeds in the NCAA Women’s College Basketball tournament have been released.

Stanford, UCONN, South Carolina and North Carolina State have claimed number one seeds with the Cardinal claiming the top overall seed.

The news of the Huskies seeding came just hours after the school announced head coach Geno Auriemma tested positve for COVID-19 on Sunday. Following contact tracing, no other coaches or players were deemed close contacts.

“After we received notification of the positive test result yesterday, we initiated contact tracing protocols, which included interviewing individual members of the basketball program and in-depth video analysis of practice,” director of sports medicine and head team physician Deena Casiero said in a statement.  “Only household close contacts were identified. Given the fact that we have been doing daily testing for the past seven days, we feel confident that we were able to catch this very early on in the disease process. The remainder of Tier I tested negative yesterday and today.”

The basketball Hall of Famer has no symptoms and it isolating at home. He will continue to isolate until March 24, which would mean he would miss the opening two rounds.

UCONN is scheduled to leave for San Antonio on Tuesday for the tournament and play its first game on Sunday against High Point University. If they win, the Huskie have a second round match-up on March 23.

The Atlantic Coast Conference leads the way with 8 selections, followed by the Southestern Conference and Big Ten with 7 each.

The Final Four will take place on April 2 with the Championship game on April 4.
