Jennifer Nettles revisits beloved American Songbook classics with new album, 'Always Like New'

No Comments Country Music News

Shervin Lainez/Concord RecordsOne half of country duo Sugarland and a genre-defying solo artist and actor, Jennifer Nettles announced on Friday that she’s planning to release an album full of beloved classic songs from American musicals.

“As a child who grew up in musical theater, this album feels like a homecoming to me,” says Jennifer. “…It is thrilling to be able to celebrate this amazing songwriting with arrangements and vocals that allow them to be rediscovered anew.”

Called Always Like New, the collection features hits from perennial favorite shows such as My Fair Lady and Oklahoma!, as well as newer hit productions like Hamilton.

To assist with arrangements, Jennifer tapped Alex Lacamoire, who is best known for his work on shows such as Hamilton, In the Heights and Dear Evan Hansen, and the singer says she “savored” every aspect of the collaborative creative process.

Always Like New comes out on June 25, but it’s available for pre-order and pre-save now. On Friday, Jennifer also previewed her new album with a first taste of the track list: She released “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” which originally appeared in the 1950 Broadway musical Guys and Dolls.

Kevin Bacon hilariously reveals why he had to return wife Kyra Sedgwick's engagement ring

No Comments Entertainment News

Steve Jennings/WireImage(NEW YORK) — Kevin Bacon has enjoyed 32 blissful years of married life to actress Kyra Sedgwick, but the Footloose star reveals that he made a major error when popping the question.

Appearing recently on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 62-year-old actor confessed that he didn’t seek a second opinion when picking out the engagement ring, which led to an awkward Christmas Eve proposal.

“I really, really didn’t want anybody else to know [that I was proposing,]” Bacon admitted, saying he regrets not consulting any friends or family members about the ring because, “I’m really not, like, a jewelry guy… I’m just not good at picking something like that out.”

Sedgwick, now 52, apparently hated the ring he stuffed into her stocking, but didn’t make her feelings about it known until three months later.

“We’re lying in bed and she wakes up in the middle of the night, and she’s crying and she’s crying, and she can’t even say what’s going on,” the Golden Globe winner recalled.  “I thought she was breaking up with me!”

Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, but it wasn’t easy to hear his future bride admit, “I don’t like the ring!”

“I talked her off the ledge after that,” Bacon joked, adding he promised he would “take it back.”

“She felt so terrible,” he added, saying he assured Sedgwick by claiming he didn’t care about the ring but appreciated her honesty.

The couple wed in 19888 and share two children together; Sosie Bacon, 29, and Travis Bacon, 31.

(TAKOMA PARK, Md.) — David Hall Dixon, a Pentagon Force Protection Agency police officer who was off duty at the time of a fatal shooting in Maryland, has been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing two people, Takoma Park police said Friday.

Those killed were identified by the Takoma Park police as Dominique Williams, 32, and James Lionel Johnson, 38.

The shooting took place in a parking lot early Wednesday, according to police.

Shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday, Takoma Park police responded to reports of shots fired in the parking lot area of the Takoma Overlook Condominiums, according to a department news release issued Wednesday.

An off-duty Pentagon Force Protection Agency officer approached the Takoma Park police and said he had seen what he thought was a car break-in and “engaged the suspects who failed to follow his direction,” according to the Wednesday release.

When the “suspects” tried to “flee” in a vehicle, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency officer “discharged his service weapon,” Takoma Park police said then.

The two men shot were taken to the hospital and died there, police said.

Dixon was also charged with second-degree attempted murder of Michael Thomas, 36 — the driver of the vehicle he shot into, police said Friday.

He also faces three counts for use of a handgun in commission of a felony and two counts of wreckless endangerment, police said.

Dixon was taken into custody without incident Friday morning, according to the release.

Carlean Ponder, an activist with the Silver Spring Justice Coalition, said it was a “relief” that the officer was charged.

“For us, there were many questions surrounding this incident,” Ponder told ABC News.

Ponder also said that the “biggest problem is the excessive use of force,” and the use of lethal force.

The Takoma Park Police Department has scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. Friday.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

No Comments Country Music News

Big Machine RecordsThis month, Tim McGraw will return to his August 2020 Here on Earth album, delivering a deluxe version of the project that also features a slew of accompanying videos for its songs.

The Here on Earth Ultimate Edition and Here on Earth Ultimate Video Edition will arrive later this month, but they’re both available for pre-order now. The deluxe treatment bumps the album’s track list up to 22 songs, plus two additional bonus movie tracks on the Video Edition.

Among those movie tracks are “Keep Your Eyes on Me” — featuring Faith Hill, Tim’s wife and fellow country superstar — from the soundtrack of 2017 film The Shack, and “Gravity,” which comes from 2018 documentary Free Solo.

The other new additions to the track list include “Thought About You” and “Neon Church,” two stand-alone singles that Tim released in 2018 and 2019 before departing Sony’s Columbia Nashville to return to his previous label home, Big Machine Records. Tim also included “Cuttin’ Onions” and “Truth Is,” two songs that were Target-exclusive bonus tracks for Here on Earth’s initial release.

The new package also features “Undivided,” Tim’s collaboration with Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard, which came out early this year. Then, there’s the brand-new “God Moves the Pen,” which Tim dropped on Friday.

Six standouts on the track list — “Here on Earth,” “I Called Mama,” “Gravy,” “Undivided,” “Thought About You” and “Neon Church” — get the visual treatment on the Ultimate Video Edition, with special videos for each song.

Both projects come out on April 16, and Tim’s celebration of all things Here on Earth won’t stop there: On June 12, for Record Store Day, he’s dropping a special edition 12” vinyl of “Undivided,” with an acoustic performance of “I Called Mama” as a B-side.
