(NEW YORK) — Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson was found dead at the Homewood Suites in Brandon, Florida, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office

The Sheriff’s office is investigating the death.

According to hotel staff, Jackson, who is a resident of South Tampa, checked in on January 11 and had been staying there since.

Jackson’s family reported him missing on February 10. The next day a formal report was filed. On February 12, the sheriff’s office got in contact with Jackson and after checking on his well-being, the missing person case was dismissed.

A housekeeper found Jackson at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. There were no apparent signs of trauma, according to the Sheriff’s office.

“My heart aches for the many loved ones Vincent Jackson leaves behind, from his wife and children to the Buccaneers nation that adored him,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Mr. Jackson was a devoted man who put his family and community above everything else. Football aside, he touched countless lives through his Jackson In Action 83 Foundation. We shared a passion for supporting military families, and three years ago, Jackson was even made an honorary deputy by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office to recognize his dedication to the community. He will be sorely missed by not only football fans across the country, but also the people here in Hillsborough County who reaped the benefits of his generous contributions.”

Jackson last played in the NFL in 2016 with Tampa Bay. The three-time Pro-Bowler played 12 season’s in the league after getting drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2005. He totaled 540 receptions, 9080 yards, and 57 touchdowns.

Both the Buccaneers and the Chargers released statements following Jackson’s death:

(NEW YORK) — Two high-profile stars of the U.S. women’s national team, goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris and defender Ali Krieger, have adopted a daughter.

The couple, who wed in 2019, shared the news on social media that their daughter, Sloane Phillips, was born on Feb. 12, weighing six pounds, 11 ounces.

“THANK YOU to our wonderful family, our best of friends, agency, teammates and coaches who have supported us fully through this process and now we are SO PROUD to finally share her with the world!,” Harris and Krieger each wrote on their Instagram accounts to announce the new addition to their family.

Harris and Krieger also each wrote a touching note to Sloane’s birth mom, whose name they did not identify.

“We promise Sloane will be loved every single day by us, our friends and our family. We promise to give her the tools to live a happy, successful life of inclusivity and support,” they wrote. “We promise to share her adoption story with her from the very beginning and celebrate every milestone!”

“We promise to encourage her to follow her dreams no matter how big or small,” they added. “We promise to be open minded and respect your wishes to have future communication and that she will always know how much you love her!”

The couple did not reveal any further details of Sloane’s adoption. Krieger described it on Instagram as the “one of the most beautiful yet stressful processes” she has experienced with Harris.

Harris and Krieger were both members of the U.S. women’s national team that won an historic fourth World Cup title in 2019.

At the time the U.S. women won the World Cup, there was only one mother on the U.S. women’s national team, and just seven mothers in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Harris and Krieger both now play for the Orlando Pride, the National Women’s Soccer League team in Orlando, Florida.

The couple received tweets of congratulations on Sunday welcoming their daughter Sloane into the soccer community.

Two storms moving across the country as historic cold blast hits Central US

No Comments National News

ABC NewsBy MAX GOLEMBO, ABC News

(NEW YORK) — There are two storms moving across the country along with a historic cold blast that has not been seen in parts of the South in decades.

The first storm brought record breaking snowfall this weekend for Seattle, Portland, Oregon and into Oklahoma and Texas along with the most snow in Seattle since 1969.

In Texas and Oklahoma, 6 to 10 inches of snow fell from San Angelo to Oklahoma City where the snow paralyzed the region.

In Oklahoma City, the temperatures remained below 20 degrees for more than seven days, comparable only to the cold outbreak in 1905 and in the late 1800s, according to the National Weather Service.

On Monday, 43 states are on alert for snow, ice and bitter cold.

The storm that brought all the snow and ice to Seattle, Portland, Oklahoma City and Dallas will move into the Ohio Valley Monday and into the Northeast Monday night with ice and snow.

An ice storm warning has been issued for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York where a half an inch of ice accretion is possible.

A winter storm warning has also been issued for Chicago, St. Louis, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Nashville, Tennessee where some areas could see more than a half a foot of snow.

A second storm is expected to move into the South by Wednesday with more ice and snow for Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee.

This second storm moves into the Northeast by Thursday with snow changing to rain from Washington, D.C. to Boston and all snow for the inland Northeast from Pennsylvania to Maine.

With these two storms affecting most of the lower 48 states, a lot of ice and snow is expected to fall this week from Washington to Texas and up to Maine.

The heaviest snow from these two storms will be in western New York state and into the mountains of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine where more than a foot can accumulate.

Heavy snow is also expected in the Cascades and northern Rockies.

There will be historic record-breaking cold on Monday night that will occur from the Plains down to Texas and into Alabama where these temperatures have not been seen for decades.

Here are the wind chills for Tuesday morning across the country:
